What Jericho Is About

The story is set in the sixteenth century, in the American lands of Spain. Santiago, a Dominican friar, comes out alive from a brutal expedition. He is then taken in among a Carib people and starts living there. Fleeing a conflict between tribes, he falls into the hands of Spanish forces instead. The charge against him is heresy. The friar is caught between what he believes and what is being done in the conquest. The film does not tell colonisation as a story of heroism. The account follows one man left between two worlds. The ninety minutes rest on that position. Cosme Cortázar and Francis Rueda appear in Luis Alberto Lamata’s Venezuelan film, completed in 1991.
