What Joe Dakota Is About

A stranger rides into a town. The man he is looking for is a Native American. The townspeople tell him the man has gone. What they say does not hold together. The men of the town are drilling an oil well by hand. The well is next to where the man’s shack stood. He is said to have sold the land and left. The stranger keeps asking. The town speaks with one voice. After a while the account cracks. The man was hanged in that town. The reason given was an accusation that he had assaulted a woman, and the stranger goes after that claim until his own identity comes out too. Jock Mahoney, Luana Patten, Charles McGraw and Lee Van Cleef appear in the seventy nine minute film, an American production Richard Bartlett finished in 1957.
