Joe Speedboot

Sam de Jong's 2026 Dutch film follows Fransje, left in a wheelchair after an accident. He cannot speak and can use only one arm. A newcomer named Joe arrives in the village and changes everything. The film keeps Fransje's point of view; the narrative does not fall into pity and shows the danger Joe brings as much as the energy. It is adapted from a novel. The images are lively and the music heavy. The tone sits between humour and sadness. Who it's for: those who like Dutch cinema and unusual friendship stories. Who it's not for: viewers for whom the depiction of severe disability would be difficult.
