Journey From the Fall

The film begins with the fall of Saigon in 1975. Long had stood with the southern government. He does not want to leave the country. So he stays behind. Before long he is sent to a camp. He is held in the camp for many years. He tells his family to escape by boat. His wife Mai, his son Lai and his mother set out. The sea crossing is long and dangerous. They hope to reach America. Long for his part gets no word from his family. In time he comes to think they have all died. On the other side the family tries to hold on in a new country. Kieu Chinh and Long Nguyen take the leads, with Diem Lien also in the cast, in Ham Tran’s American production of 2007.
