Jules and Dolores

19 December 1983. The Jules Rimet Cup is taken from the headquarters of the Brazilian football confederation in Rio. The trophy had stayed in Brazil for good after the third win in 1970. The thieves the film follows are Peralta and Borracha, one of them deep in gambling debt and the other along for it. The plan is simple: take the cup, melt it, sell it. What they leave out of the calculation is what that cup means in Brazil, where for the entire country it is not a piece of gold. Caito Ortiz directs the Brazilian comedy; eighty-four minutes, with Paulo Tiefenthaler, Danilo Grangheia and Taís Araújo in the cast. It is drawn from the real case. The trophy has never been recovered and was in all likelihood melted down; the one standing at the confederation today is a replica.
