Just One Look

The story is set in Hong Kong in the seventies. Fan’s father, a policeman, takes his own life, but Fan believes it was murder, the work of a gangster nicknamed Crazy. Ten years later he begins to think about avenging his father. Meanwhile Fan and his closest friend Ming are devoted to the movies; they sell their families’ wares outside the local cinema. When they catch sight of the master’s beautiful daughter they decide to sign up for kung fu lessons. But Fan falls for another girl, one who lives out in the country. The film folds the idea of revenge into a story of growing up, and the cinema itself holds a place of its own in the account. Gillian Chung, Charlene Choi and Shawn Yue appear, with Anthony Wong and Shu Qi also in the cast of Riley Yip Kam-Hung’s ninety one minute Hong Kong film, completed in 2002.
