Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh

On 13 April 1919, British troops opened fire on a crowd gathered at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar; hundreds were killed. The official account presented this as the suppression of an armed uprising. C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer serving on the Viceroy's council, did not believe it and set out to prove in court that it had been a massacre. Ranged against him were the army and the institution he himself belonged to. Karan Singh Tyagi's first film adapts The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu and Pushpa Palat. The adaptation takes liberties: the real case was heard in London and the film moves it to Punjab, while the opposing counsel played by R. Madhavan is an invention. Akshay Kumar plays Nair. The film opened on 18 April 2025. Who it's for: Viewers who like colonial-era courtroom drama, Indian historical films, and narratives drawn from real cases. Who it's not for: It departs from historical accuracy deliberately and the telling is heroic. The emotional beats are also underlined.
