Khodorkovsky

The documentary is about Mikhail Khodorkovsky, reckoned the richest man in Russia, challenging President Putin, and about what followed. Putin warns him; Khodorkovsky returns to Russia from New York knowing that he will be imprisoned. The film’s point of departure is exactly that question: with billions of dollars, why did he not stay in exile. The director builds it as a personal search and the account stands openly on Khodorkovsky’s side; the judgement is the film’s judgement, not the whole of the argument. The film takes up not only one man’s story but the political landscape of Russia, its new money and its power. Cyril Tuschi’s hundred and eleven minute documentary was completed in 2011.
