Kidnap Syndicate

The son of a wealthy industrialist is kidnapped together with the son of a poor mechanic. A ransom is demanded. The industrialist sits down to bargain, while the mechanic says he has nothing to give. When things start going badly the mechanic decides he is in no position to wait for the police or for the money, and goes after the kidnappers on his own. Fernando Di Leo's film sits inside the Italian crime wave of the seventies but sets the case up as a matter of class: the same crime, two families, two entirely different amounts of bargaining power. The rich man has money and the poor one has only his anger. Luc Merenda plays the mechanic and James Mason the industrialist. The violence is given without decoration and the telling declares nobody a hero.
