King Petar the First

The film is about the Serbian army in the First World War and King Petar at its head. After returning to the country Petar sets up a parliamentary order and starts rebuilding. When war comes after the assassination at Sarajevo, that work is cut short. The Serbian army fights first at Cer and then at Kolubara. After that the government declares retreat the only option. With heavy losses the army crosses the mountains of Albania in winter conditions. Where it arrives is Corfu and the island of Vido. The film builds this not as a story of victory but as one of endurance. The work is adapted from a novel by Milovan Vitezović. Lazar Ristovski and Radovan Vujović appear in Petar Ristovski’s film, a joint Greek and Serbian production, completed in 2018.
