What La Balance Is About
A squad of Paris detectives looking for an informer who can take them to a large criminal organisation fixes on a woman and her lover. To force the two into it they use every kind of pressure they have. The word in the title is French slang for an informer, and that is the whole subject: the film leaves open the question of who is filthier, the police or the criminals. Directed by the American Bob Swaim, it took the Cesars for best film, best actress and best actor in France.
