What Ladies Who Do Is About

A group of women who clean offices find information about the stock market among papers thrown out with the rubbish. Using it, they make a good deal of money in a short time. They decide to use what they have earned not for their own comfort but to save their old neighbourhood from demolition, and set about dealing with the developer they have taken on. The film makes its comedy out of class difference and always turns the ridiculous position onto those holding the money. It works with the moulds of British comedy of the sixties. When the women are done the question left standing is this: had the same information been in other hands, would anyone have called it a swindle. Peggy Mount and Robert Morley appear in C.M. Pennington-Richards’s eighty five minute British film, completed in 1963.
