Lady with the Dog

Dimitri Gurov, a Muscovite on holiday in Yalta, notices a young woman walking her dog and finds a way to meet her. Her name is Anna; she is married to a man she does not love. Gurov's own marriage is in the same state. An affair begins between them. The holiday ends and each goes back to their own city; but it does not end there. Iosif Kheifits directed the film from Chekhov's story of the same name. Iya Savvina plays Anna and Aleksey Batalov plays Gurov. The telling keeps the measure of the story: no grand speeches, no explanations, only two people realising that their lives will not be as they were. In the images Yalta and Moscow are built as opposites of each other.
