Szilárd Bernáth's 2022 Hungarian film follows Adam in a poor part of eastern Hungary. He works as a shepherd on a farm and lives in an oppressive relationship with his father, a policeman. Adam has a speech impediment and can express himself only when writing rap. The film does not offer the music as deliverance; the narrative shows how those around him respond and does not shift the father's position. Benett Vilmányi leads. The images are rural and cold in tone. The close is hard. Who it's for: viewers of Hungarian independent cinema and youth drama. Who it's not for: viewers for whom scenes of violence within a family would be difficult.
