What Last Cab to Darwin Is About
Rex has driven a cab in Broken Hill for most of his life, mostly alone. Told he has months left, he sets out to cross the continent to Darwin, where he believes he can die on terms he chooses. What the drive keeps interrupting is not the plan but every assumption he had made about the life he was preparing to end. Jeremy Sims and Reg Cribb adapted it from Cribb's 2003 stage play, itself drawn from the real case of Max Bell, a Broken Hill driver who made that journey in 1996 under a Northern Territory law that lasted only months.
