What Last of the Dogmen Is About
Three prisoners escape in Montana, and the bounty hunter sent after them finds blood and a broken arrow at their camp. The anthropologist who identifies the arrow first calls his theory madness: there cannot be a band of Cheyenne living undiscovered deep in the mountains for more than a century. Then the two of them set out together. The film is fiction, but the Sand Creek Massacre behind it is not; in 1864 in Colorado hundreds of Cheyenne and Arapaho, most of them women and children, were killed. The hidden tribe is adventure fantasy, and we only ever see them through the white hunter's eyes.
