Legong: Dance of the Virgins

The account is set in Bali. Poutou is a young woman who dances at the temple. She lives with her father and her younger sister. The sister is called Saplak. A musician new to the village appears. His name is Nyong. Poutou falls in love with him. Her father begins preparing for a marriage. Poutou plans her last dance at the temple. But Nyong’s heart is with her sister. When she learns of it she is broken. She takes her own life. The film was made silent and in two colour Technicolor. Poetoe Aloes Goesti and Njong Njong Njoman take the leads, with Saplak Njoman also in the cast, in Henri de la Falaise’s American film of 1935.
