What Les Cowboys Is About
A country music festival in France; people in cowboy hats are dancing and Alain is about to go on stage with his daughter. Then she disappears. The letter she leaves makes clear she has gone with the boy she loves and converted to Islam. Alain starts looking for her, and the search runs for years; he puts his work, his wife and his health into it, and at a certain point his son takes the father's place. Bidegain built the film openly on John Ford's The Searchers. Its strength is that it asks about the distance between her choice and his obsession.
