Les Petites Fugues

Pipe, an old farm worker, has reached the age to retire. But he cannot picture a life without work. So he keeps on doing his job. He does not know what to do with the money that retirement puts in his hands either. What he now has gives him the chance to choose something for himself. The film builds ageing not as a loss but as a question of freedom arriving late. How someone who worked all his life for others will use his own time is the real subject. The hundred and forty minutes move at a slow, everyday pace. Michel Robin and Fred Personne appear in Yves Yersin’s film, a joint French and Swiss production, completed in 1979.
