Mário Peixoto What Limite Is About
Made in 1931, silent, and one of the strangest things in Brazilian cinema. Two women and a man sit in a boat on open water with no prospect of rescue, and as time passes they tell how they came to be there. The film does not lay those stories out in order; it moves through images, repetitions, faces and water. Mário Peixoto made it at twenty-two and never made another film. The negative was left to rot for decades and the film came close to being lost before it was restored. Nearly two hours, and hard work for anyone after plot.
