Live-In Maid

Buenos Aires is deep in an economic slump. The film is about a well off woman and the maid who lives in her house. As the money runs out, the relation between them begins to shift. An arrangement that has held for years cracks once it is no longer clear who depends on whom. The film gives this not as a conflict but as the habit two women have of each other. The difference of class does not disappear; it only comes out of the place where it was invisible. The house becomes a shared ground neither woman can easily leave. Norma Aleandro and Norma Argentina appear in Jorge Gaggero’s eighty three minute film, a joint Argentine and Spanish production, completed in 2004.
