Lone Wolf

A boy named Ranko finds a large shepherd dog in the mountains, an animal left over from the war. He frees it from a trap, gives it a name by reading the inscription on its collar and begins to carry food to it in secret. But the villagers take the animal for a lone wolf that has been killing sheep and decide to put it down. One day the dog saves Ranko from an attack by a real wolf; even so a hunt is organised in the village, and the boy steps in alone to save his friend. The film tells the bond between a child and an animal not as a fairy tale but as something really lived through in the middle of winter. Slavko Stimac appears in Obrad Gluscevic’s eighty minute Yugoslav film, completed in 1972.
