Lost Girl

Jorge Michel Grau's 2019 Mexican film opens with the search for a woman who has disappeared. Eric, who wants to be an orchestra conductor, never sees his girlfriend Carolina again after the night she tells him she is leaving him; she vanishes without a trace and the police, taking it for a separation, do not treat it seriously. He begins his own investigation and comes upon things about her life he did not know. The film starts as an inquiry into a disappearance and moves towards questioning his own account, as it emerges that the relationship he remembers differs from what happened. The question of missing women in Mexico stands in the background and sets the tone. The telling is slow and keeps its uncertainty.
