Lovesick

Ye Zijie is a teenager constantly looking for trouble; he cannot hold on at school, does not get along at home, and nobody takes him seriously. By chance he discovers something: when he says he is ill, people behave differently. They pay attention, they are patient, they stay. Zijie turns it into a method. The question is who the lie works on, and whether that person is actually ill. Hsu Fu-hsiang uses the familiar shape of Taiwanese youth drama but puts an unusual idea at its centre: affection built through illness, and when that turns into exploitation. The narrative neither defends nor condemns Zijie. Zhan Huai-yun and Victoria Chiang take the leads. The film was released in 2025. Who it's for: Viewers who like Taiwanese youth films, first-love narratives, and drama moving through moral grey areas. Who it's not for: The premise stops carrying after a point and the second half turns into familiar melodrama. The illness theme also takes the easy road on a delicate subject.
