Joel Alfonso Vargas's 2026 American film follows Rico, a teenager in the Bronx. He spends the summer selling homemade cocktails out of a cooler at the beach. The arrangement breaks when his girlfriend Destiny becomes pregnant and moves in. The film does not put Rico into a story of growing up; the narrative watches the days inside the family's cramped flat and vindicates no one. The cast are unknown and the talk is close to improvisation. The images are in summer heat and narrow rooms. The tone is humorous. Who it's for: viewers of American independent cinema and narratives of everyday life. Who it's not for: viewers expecting incident; the film is made almost entirely of talk.
