Madame X

Holly Parker is the wife of a wealthy diplomat. Her husband is always away, and out of loneliness she lets another man get close. When he dies in an accident, her mother-in-law steps in: disappear, or your husband's name and your son's go into the mud. Holly leaves. For years she drifts from country to country, drinking, sinking. In the end she kills a blackmailer who knows her past. The lawyer appointed to defend her at the trial is her grown son, who has no idea who she is. She refuses to give her name, and the file reads Madame X. David Lowell Rich directs, with Lana Turner as Holly. A hundred minutes, with John Forsythe, Constance Bennett, Ricardo Montalban and Keir Dullea in the cast. It comes from Alexandre Bisson's 1908 play, which has been filmed many times over.
