Malila: The Farewell Flower

Shane and Pich were lovers years ago. After a long time apart they meet again in their home village. Pich is living with a serious illness. He seems to have come to terms with it. He spends his days making bai sri. These are traditional Thai ornaments built out of flowers. They are used in religious ceremonies and take great patience to make. Shane is carrying a grief of his own. He lost his daughter and his marriage fell apart after that. Pich’s calm affects him deeply. The bond between the two men forms again. But Pich does not have much time. Shane starts looking for a way to bear it. In the end he does what he had long been considering and becomes a monk. The film took the Kim Jiseok award at Busan in 2017. It opened in Thailand in 2018. Sukollawat Kanarot and Anuchit Sapanpong appear in the ninety five minute film, a Thai production Anucha Boonyawatana finished in 2018.
