What Medium Is About
Sopot, 1933. Four people are mysteriously drawn together into an old villa and end up having to reenact a murder ritual performed there thirty six years earlier. Jacek Koprowicz's 1985 film is a rare piece of genre work in Polish cinema: paranormal suspense, astrology, a solar eclipse and one closed location. Jerzy Stuhr and Grazyna Szapolowska are in the cast. That something this genre driven and this stylised was made in mid eighties Poland is notable in itself. Its atmosphere is stronger than its plot.
