What Michael Jackson: Chase the Truth Is About
This documentary was made as a direct answer to Leaving Neverland from 2019. People from Michael Jackson's close circle, former members of his staff and the biographer Mike Smallcombe speak in it, all arguing that the child abuse allegations are untrue and were brought for money. The film also retells Jackson's legal battles from the beginning. Which side the documentary is on is plain: the people making the allegations are given no voice and the opposing account is largely left out. What is on the documented record is this: Jackson was acquitted in the 2005 criminal trial, the 1993 case was closed by a settlement without going to court, and legal proceedings on the subject continued after his death. The film is a defence, not a verdict. It is worth watching with that in mind.
