Elizabeth Dear B Bobby Büchler What Milestones Is About
Standing between documentary and fiction, the film draws a portrait of the people who looked for radical answers to social problems in the United States in the sixties and seventies. It moves back and forth between six story lines and more than fifty characters; nobody is at the centre, everybody is inside the same period. How the American left lived in the years after the Vietnam war, what it believed and what it gave up comes out of these conversations. The length of more than three hours is a deliberate choice; the film asks the same patience of the viewer. The hundred and ninety five minute American production by John Douglas and Robert Kramer was completed in 1975.
