What Mirage Is About
Marko, who lives in Veles, is a quiet, watchful boy who writes poems; at school a group of boys are violent towards him, and at home nobody protects him. When his teacher takes his writing seriously and tells him about a competition in Paris, the boy thinks for the first time that another life might be possible. A friendship with a stranger who turns up in the town enlarges that hope. But not one of the promises is kept, and the film ends in a very hard place; what must be said, without the detail, is that nobody heard the boy. Marko Kovacevic appears for the first time in Svetozar Ristovski’s hundred and six minute Macedonian film; it was completed in 2004.
