What Mission London Is About
A concert is being arranged at the London embassy to celebrate Bulgaria joining the European Union, and the new ambassador Varadin has exactly one job: make sure the Queen turns up. His staff are on the take, a criminal outfit is running things out of the kitchen, he falls for a stripper, and the PR firm he hires supplies lookalikes instead of actual royals. A simple assignment becomes a full nightmare. Dimitar Mitovski adapted Alek Popov's novel and the film was a large hit in Bulgaria. What it is mocking is unmistakable: the anxiety of a new member state trying to be liked by the West. Alan Ford is in the cast. It remains one of the most watched comedies Bulgarian cinema has made.
