What Monsoon Shootout Is About
A young officer newly assigned to the Mumbai crime branch is caught, on his first job, between shooting a fleeing suspect and not shooting him. That is the film’s idea: Amit Kumar plays the same moment three times with three different decisions, and each one opens a different life. The right path, the wrong path and the middle path. It was presented at a midnight screening at Cannes in 2013 but did not reach Indian cinemas until December 2017, four years later. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vijay Varma and Tannishtha Chatterjee star. The monsoon is not scenery here but tempo: everything happens under water, late and heavy.
