Morgan Ahmed Morgan

Ali Idris's 2007 Egyptian film is about a businessman who believes anything can be bought. Morgan is uneducated and very rich, and the one thing he sees himself as lacking is a university degree, which he assumes he can purchase. He makes a donation to open a place for himself, then becomes a student, then starts interfering in how the institution runs. The film takes aim at how little resistance Egyptian educational institutions offer to money and how respectability can be bought. Adel Emam plays the character as both ridiculous and threatening, and the criticism under the comedy hardens in the final section. The story is scattered in places and it runs long. It was among the most watched Egyptian popular films of its period. Who it's for: viewers who like Egyptian comedy and the films of Adel Emam. Who it's not for: anyone expecting measured satire; the film is founded on exaggeration.
