What Murder Over New York Is About
On his way to a police convention in New York, Charlie Chan runs into an old acquaintance on the plane: a man now working for British military intelligence and following a ring sabotaging bomber production. When the friend is murdered, the case falls to Chan. Made in 1940, while the war still looked distant from America, the film takes its tension from the fear of sabotage in the aircraft plants. The Chinese detective is again played by a white actor, Sidney Toler, as he was throughout the long run of the series. Jimmy, his son, is played by the Chinese American actor Victor Sen Yung.
