My Dear Prime Minister

Kanhu is an eight year old boy. He lives in a shanty settlement called Gandhi Nagar in Mumbai. He lives alone with his mother Sargam. The settlement has no toilet. Because of that, women have to go outside at night. One night Sargam is raped. Kanhu does not fully understand what has happened, but he sees that his mother has changed. He looks for a remedy in his own way. He decides to write a letter to the Prime Minister. In the letter he asks for a toilet for his mother. Three friends from the settlement join him. The children travel to Delhi to hand the letter over. What they want is to meet the Prime Minister himself. The film takes up sanitation and plumbing at a child’s eye level. It puts the matter plainly, without preaching. Anjali Patil and Makrand Deshpande appear in the hundred and four minute film, an Indian production Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra finished in 2019.
