My Step Brother Frankenstein

One day someone knocks at the door of Krymov, a scientist living in Moscow. The man at the door is Pavel, a young man wounded in the war. Pavel says he is Krymov’s son, born outside the marriage. Krymov denies it, but out of pity helps arrange the operation the young man needs. Then certain things happen and Krymov begins to doubt the state of the man’s mind. The film tells of someone back from a war who no longer fits into a home. The state of a family caught between pity and fear is the real subject. The account does not turn Pavel into a monster; it shows him as a weight nobody can carry. Leonid Yarmolnik and Daniil Spivakovskiy appear in Valery Todorovsky’s hundred and eleven minute Russian film, completed in 2004.
