My Sweet Orange Tree

Zezé is the child of a poor family. There are many siblings and no money at home. His mother works in a factory and his father is out of work. His older sisters look after him. The family moves to a house with a garden. There is an orange tree in that garden. The boy takes the tree as his friend. He talks to it and tells it his troubles. The tree seems to answer him. Zezé is clever and full of mischief. He is always getting into trouble. Beside the tree, though, he calms down. The story runs on that friendship. Then one day the tree has to come down. The film is adapted from the novel by José Mauro de Vasconcelos. Júlio César Cruz appears in the hundred and seven minute film, a Brazilian production Aurélio Teixeira finished in 1970.
