Naa Peru Surya - Naa Illu India

Vakkantham Vamsi's 2018 Telugu film is about a soldier with a problem controlling his anger. Surya is a capable officer serving on the border, but he cannot be stopped once enraged and is discharged for it. To return he needs the approval of a psychiatrist, and the process brings him face to face with the father he has not spoken to for years, who is a specialist in exactly that field. The film entwines soldiering, nationalism and an idea of manhood, and was criticised for presenting anger as both a problem and a virtue. The scenes between father and son are its strongest passages. Allu Arjun changed his body and bearing for the part. The action is heavy and the film long. Who it's for: viewers who like Telugu action drama. Who it's not for: anyone uncomfortable with violence being justified; the film is not consistent about it.
