Narayaneente Moonnaanmakkal

Sharan Venugopal's 2025 Malayalam film follows three brothers gathering at the family house for their dying mother. They have not seen one another for years and are forced together to prepare the funeral. The subject is the house itself. Every room recalls an old argument and the brothers fall back into the same quarrels; the narrative does not force a reconciliation and does not say who was right. Alencier Ley Lopez, Joju George and Suraj Venjaramoodu play the brothers. The narrative produces no events, proceeding through waiting, meals and telephone calls. The tone is heavy and the humour bitter. Who it's for: those who like Malayalam family drama and narratives about siblings. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a film that ends in reconciliation; the narrative does not close the matter.
