Neal Brennan: Crazy Good

Neal Brennan's 2024 stand-up special moves between cryptocurrency, showing off on social media and how compliments work. The real thread is the relationship between success and mental health. Brennan uses his own history of depression as material without turning the show into a confession. The transitions between observation and personal account are quick and the structure is deliberately loose. The manner is flat and low-tempo, with no shouting and no repetition. Brennan directed the special himself; the stage design is plain and the camera moves little. The final section is markedly more serious than the rest. Who it's for: those who like observational stand-up. Who it's not for: viewers sensitive to depression and suicidal thinking; the show takes them up directly.
