What Njandukalude Naattil Oridavela Is About
Althaf Salim's 2017 Malayalam film follows a mother diagnosed with cancer and how her family copes with the news. Its choice is clear from the start: the illness is treated not as tragedy but as a matter entering the family's daily life. The story's strength is using humour not to cover the illness but to live with it: the family joke, quarrel and are afraid. Shanthi Krishna's mother marked her return to cinema after many years. Nivin Pauly's character opens a second line through his unemployment. The final section slides into emotional steering. Who it's for: viewers who like Malayalam family films and measured stories about illness. Who it's not for: anyone avoiding the subject of cancer, or wanting plot.
