Nna Thaan Case Kodu

Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval's 2022 Malayalam film shows how a small incident can expose an entire system. Rajeevan, a former thief trying to build a decent life, is dragged into a legal process because of an innocent act of self-defence. As the case grows, what he faces is not only the police but local politicians and the bureaucracy, and he puts the negligence of exactly those offices at the centre of his own defence. The film proceeds like a courtroom drama while staying comic throughout, and what is funny is the system itself. Kunchacko Boban plays a man with nothing to lose with a calm stubbornness. It is one of the films that shows how comfortable Malayalam cinema is with political satire. Who it's for: viewers who like Malayalam cinema and comedies aimed at institutions. Who it's not for: anyone who will miss most of the local political references and does not want to follow the legal detail.
