No One's Child

In the winter of 1988, hunters find a boy who cannot speak living among wolves in the mountain forests of Bosnia. He is given a name and sent to an institution in Belgrade; against every prediction he develops quickly, learns to speak and makes friends. When war breaks out in 1992 he is required to return to Bosnia, and there he has nowhere to go; in his own country he is a stranger all over again. Vuk Ršumović’s film starts from a real case but builds it not as one boy’s story so much as a question about where the limits of humanity lie in wartime. Denis Murić’s performance carries it and never begs the audience for sympathy. It won the FIPRESCI prize and the FEDEORA award for best script at Venice Critics’ Week in 2014.
