What Nobody's Life Is About

Emilio has a life anyone would envy: a respected job at the Bank of Spain, a good house, a family that loves him. All of it is a lie. His wife Ágata starts to suspect something when she sees him picking up a visitor's pass to get into the bank. Around the same time Emilio begins an affair with a broke university student, and the arrangement he has built starts to crack. Eduard Cortés's film takes as its subject a lie about identity kept up for a long time, and tells it from inside ordinary life rather than as a thriller. Emilio does not come across as someone with bad intentions but as someone locked in a room of his own making. Jose Coronado is in the lead, with Adriana Ozores as his wife and Marta Etura as the student. The tension feeds not on the lie coming out but on it not coming out.
