Oldboys

Vagn is in his fifties, lives alone, and his one regular occupation is the football team he plays in with men his own age. On the way to a match in Sweden the team stops at a petrol station and leaves Vagn behind. On the road Vagn meets a young thief. The two of them set off after the bus together and the journey stretches out. Nikolaj Steen's Danish film starts like a road comedy and goes somewhere heavier: ageing, loneliness, friendship between men. Kristian Halken plays Vagn. The humour does not make fun of the characters; it shows them not in spite of their age but along with it. The tone is dry in the way Scandinavian cinema is.
