On the Night of the Fire

A barber works in his shop. What he earns barely covers things. One day an opportunity is in front of him. There is money lying about with no owner near. He cannot resist it and takes it. At first nobody notices. Somebody did see it. The one who saw does not keep quiet. The blackmail begins. The barber has to pay. The more he pays the more is demanded. A small theft has started a long chain. One night a fire breaks out. In the end something heavier happens. The film tells it in a dark register. Ralph Richardson and Diana Wynyard appear in the ninety four minute film, a British production Brian Desmond Hurst finished in 1939.
