What Pardon Us Is About
During Prohibition, Stan and Ollie sell their home-brewed beer to the wrong customer, a policeman, and end up in prison. Everything they attempt inside goes wrong: the dentist's chair, the classroom, a riot and an escape. This was the pair's first feature, and some of the sets were left over from a big prison film of those years. The same film was also shot again in Spanish, French and other languages, with the two of them reading their lines phonetically. A warning: during the escape they black up, and that sequence is plainly racist now.
