Pedro

The film is about the life of Pedro Zamora, a Cuban American living with HIV. In 1994 he was taken into the cast of a television reality programme, and through his presence there he became a known figure; for millions who had never met anyone living with HIV or AIDS he became a familiar face. The account does not reduce him to a spokesman for a campaign; it gives separately his relation to the illness, to his family and to living in front of a camera. The film does not use the illness to teach a lesson and builds no language of heroism. Footage from the programme and staged scenes stand side by side. Alex Loynaz and Justina Machado appear in Nick Oceano’s ninety three minute American film, completed in 2008.
