Ponmagal Vandhal

Pethuraj, who lives in Ooty and is known for haunting the courts, gets a case from 2004 reopened. That case had closed with a woman accused of kidnapping and murder. Pethuraj's daughter Venba, a lawyer, takes the case on, and across the courtroom from her stand well known names of the town. Why Venba chose this case is not clear at first. JJ Fredrick's Tamil film takes place largely in the courtroom. Jyothika plays Venba; K. Bhagyaraj is the opposing counsel. The film was not released in cinemas but went straight out online, and that choice caused argument in Tamil cinema at the time. The telling does not make violence against women into thriller material; it asks how the case was closed.
